Randwick Nutritionist Comments in Take 5 Magazine

A few weeks ago I was approached by Take 5 Magazine, and asked for a nutritionists opinion on eating healthy over a weekend to kick start weight loss post Christmas.

The Best Kept Detox Secret:

There are two things that help with detoxing all the bad stuff in you body and they are your kidneys and your liver.

Your Kidneys: Every day your kidneys are working hard to eliminate waste products and extra water. The waste products and extra water eventfully become urine, which later goes to your bladder until the time you, go to the bathroom.

Your liver: Everyday your liver tirelessly detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs.

Zak Sztor Randwick Nutritionist Definition of Detox:

A process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances, otherwise known as highly processed food or alcohol.

In the last few years the word detox has been popping up all over the place, and even more so when January hits and its time to make your new years resolutions, because you have either eaten too much or drank too much booze over the festive period.

My article in this weeks Take 5 magazine highlights that healthy eating and making time for exercise during the week or weekend during the Christmas period would be the best way to start implementing good habits for the New Year.

Many people think that a detox means eliminating almost everything from your diet for example the lemon detox, and while this will provide results in the short term, it is not sustainable.

Food and Beverages to reduce:

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Fizzy drinks both full and zero sugar
  • Takeaways and processed foods

This should push you in the direction if an overhaul is what you’re looking for post Christmas party session.

Food and Beverages to increase:

  • Nutritious fresh vegetables from your local eastern suburbs market
  • Nutritious fresh fruits from your local eastern suburbs market
  • Water
  • Fibrous foods ( wholegrain)
